In brief…

Hazel Baillie is an award winning editor whose work has screened in official selections at film festivals worldwide including Cannes, Hot Docs, Silverdocs, Beijing and Edinburgh.

Her latest feature film edit, ‘In Our Name’ was met with great critical acclaim following its premiere at this year’s London Film Festival, and was given its UK cinematic release by Artificial Eye this December.

A little more back-story…

Born in Dundee, Scotland in 1982, Hazel moved to Edinburgh at the age of 17 to study at the prestigious Edinburgh College of Art. She graduated with a BA Honours degree in Film and Television Studies in 2004 and during her time there spent four months studying Film and Animation at Rhode Island School of Design, USA.

As Director/Editor, she has had a number of films screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, including two documentaries which were among the finalists for the Saltire Society Grierson Award in 2002 and 2005. She has also seen international success with her documentary ‘Fine’ having been awarded ‘Best International Short Documentary’ at the New Zealand International Documentary Festival in 2006 and ‘The Truth About Tooth’, premiering at Hot Docs International Documentary Festival in Toronto, 2007. Both films went on to screen at festivals around the world, with ‘The Truth About Tooth’ picking up the award for ‘Best Short Documentary’ at the 2007 Divercine Film Festival in Uruguay and gaining Hazel a nomination for ‘Best New Director’ at the BAFTA Scotland Awards.

In 2007 Hazel moved to London to study Editing at the National Film and Television School. Graduating with a Masters Degree in March 2009, she immediately saw great success, with her fiction edit ‘By the Grace of God’ being officially selected to hold its world premiere at Cannes International Film Festival 2009, and the UK premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009. Her animation edit ‘Goodbye Mr Pink’ premiered as part of the McLaren Animation showcase at Edinburgh International Film Festival the same year, and has gone on to screen at festivals throughout Europe.

Hazel has since edited a high standard of documentary and fiction projects, most notably, the Curzon Artificial Eye / NFTS feature film ‘In Our Name’ which stars Joanne Froggatt and Mel Raido.
